Rosamund's pledges for a Stronger, Healthier Lewisham

Rosamund's pledges

My name is Rosamund and I am standing in the Lewisham East by-election for the Green Party because I know Lewisham residents - they now want to see real change, and a stronger, healthier Lewisham. They are sick of party-political infighting and want to see the real problems they have being championed in Parliament. I am here to cut through the grand-standing and ideology and deliver for Lewisham. People in Lewisham want to see their lives improve.

My pledges to you:
Clean air for happy, healthy lives

In London THREE children in every class has an asthma diagnosis. Now overwhelming evidence points to a direct link between the
toxic air we breathe and the onset of asthma. Every year in London between 8-12 children die from asthma, the UK has the
worst death rate in Europe. In memory of my late daughter I campaign passionately for clean air, better diagnosis and treatment of asthma. Every child has the right to breathe Clean Air.

A final say over Europe - with the option to remain in

Sadly Lewisham East’s voice will not be represented during the vote on the withdrawal bill taking place on June 12th. Both the Tories and Labour are hard-Brexiteers. They want to see us crash out of the EU despite the consequences. Poverty in Lewisham is high, it is the 48th most deprived borough of all 326 local authorities, placing it in the 20% most deprived areas in England and it will be the
people of Lewisham who will pay the biggest price for a catastrophic Brexit. 70% of Lewisham voted remain and their voices should be heard.

Schools we can be proud of - supporting young people and their mental health

I was head of year and 6th form for 9 years in SE London, currently I am a school governor. So I understand a good education is key to our children going on to become successful and well-adjusted adults. Lewisham has one of the highest rates of unemployment in London – I want to raise standards in our schools, education that provides kids with the skills and confidence they need to succeed, and supports teachers to do
their jobs without the stress and burden of funding cuts. I will fight for better funding for young people’s mental health which is at crisis point with referrals taking far too long putting unnecessary pressure on schools and families. It is unacceptable the threshold a child has to reach before they are seen by a professional, the system is broken.

What else does Rosamund campaign for?

THIS ELECTION IS ABOUT MAKING YOUR VOICE HEARD, IT IS TIME FOR CHANGE AND DECIDING ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. GIVING
SOMEONE OUTSIDE THE 2 MAIN PARTIES A CHANCE TO IMPROVE YOUR STANDARD OF LIVING. I WANT YOU TO VOTE FOR ME ON PRINCIPLE, AND BECAUSE OF MY PRINCIPLES, TO PROUDLY REPRESENT LEWISHAM EAST IN PARLIAMENT.

Rosamund is a local campaigner imbedded in her community. Here are some of the issues she also campaigns on. She has done so long before she joined the Green Party, and will continue to do so long after this election:

PROTECT OUR NHS - Our NHS must be properly funded and cherished. I marched with Lewisham residents when the A&E was threatened with closure, and I continue to raise funds to support the children’s department. I have a personal relationship with Lewisham hospital and will channel the concerns and priorities of doctors and nurses to the highest levels of Government.

HOUSING – I have been attending St Swithun’s Church for 17 years, as one of the safeguarding leads I work with vulnerable people in the community who are affected by homelessness and other issues that go with living in sheltered housing. My pastoral work has given me a good grounding to become an MP.

SOCIAL COHESION - I love Lewisham, the diversity and positivity of the community. Twice a year I organise a fundraising event not only to raise money for charity but to bring the community closer together.
